Dr. Benjamin Pease received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Kansas State University. He then attended medical school at Kansas University at Kansas City before completing his residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Louisiana State University at Shreveport, LA. Dr. Pease is board certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and sleep medicine.

Dr. Pease enjoys all aspects of ENT and has particular interest in both the medical and surgical management of allergy and sinus, thyroid and parathyroid surgery and facial plastics, including cosmetic treatments and facial skin cancers.

The son of an ENT doctor from Hutchinson, KS, he grew up around medicine and learned from his dad that the most important part of being a doctor is the relationships. Michelle Fincham, MD

During her medical school training, Dr. Michelle Fincham quickly realized she enjoyed both the medical and surgical aspect of patient care. She also found the anatomy of the head and neck to be very complex and interesting. ENT became a good fit for her because it piqued her interest, allowed her to manage patients both medically and surgically, and encompassed patients of all ages. During her residency, Dr. Fincham developed interest in laryngeal and voice disorders, but she enjoys providing care for all aspects of the ear, nose and throat. Eric Purdom, MD

Dr. Eric Purdom worked at Children’s Mercy Hospital during college, which piqued his interest in caring for children. He was drawn to the specialty of ear, nose and throat because it allowed him the opportunity to care for children as well as adults both medically and surgically. Purdom spent nine years in the United States Army caring for soldiers and their dependents and has been stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA, Honolulu, HI, and Ft. Riley, KS. Dr. Kansal is a graduate of Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia. Esther V. Rettig, MD

Esther V. Rettig, M.D., President and founder of Esther V. Rettig, M.D., P.A. received her medical degree from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1993. She completed her internship at Evanston Hospital in Illinois, and later finished her residency in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic.

She attended the University of Arizona for one year and then transferred to Wellesley College in Massachusetts, dual majoring in chemistry and Biblical studies. Gary L. Harbin, M.D.

Dr. Gary Harbin started his orthopedic practice in Salina in 1980. Dr Harbin is a lifelong Salina resident and attended medical school at KUMC and completed his orthopedic residency at University of Kansas in Kansas City. Jeffrey Horinek, MD

Dr. Horinek's journey to becoming an orthopedic specialist is a testament to his hard work and dedication. Growing up on a farm in Kansas, he learned the value of diligence and perseverance at a young age. Excelling in both academics and sports, he was awarded the prestigious "Academic Heisman" during his time at Colorado State University, which gave him the confidence to pursue medicine.

After completing his premedical requirements at Fort Hays, Dr. Horinek attended KU-Salina for medical school with the intention of becoming a family practitioner. However, during his clinical rotation on orthopedics, he quickly realized that this was his true calling. He went on to complete his residency at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center before pursuing a one-year shoulder specialty fellowship at the Oregon Shoulder Institute under the mentorship of Patrick Denard.

During his time at OSI, Dr. Horinek learned the most innovative techniques for operative and nonoperative management of shoulder conditions and was involved in clinical research that has been presented at the regional, national, and international level. His work on shoulder instability even earned him the Robert Cofield Award for best fellow article of the year.

Now he's back in Kansas with his wife, Tracie and five kids. Dr. Horinek specializes in shoulder-related conditions but also has a passion for general orthopedics and helping patients return to an active lifestyle. His dedication to his patients and his field is reflected in his active participation in clinical research, and he looks forward to continuing to serve the great people of Kansas with their orthopedic needs.

Levi Kindel, MD

Levi W. Kindel, M.D. grew up in Aurora, Kansas. He graduated from Concordia High School. While attending Kansas State University Dr. Kindel experienced an ankle injury and sought care from Dr. Daily in Salina, KS. He then shadowed Dr. Daily throughout college, ultimately attending University of Kansas School of Medicine in Salina where he obtained his M.D.

He spent his time after high school at Butler County Community College as a member of the football team. After Butler he attended Kansas State University where he was a member of the Track & Field team throwing the weight and the hammer. Eventually he would move to Salina and attend medical school where he continued to work closely with our community physicians.

Following medical school, Dr. Kindel completed Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, Kansas. His training included work at Wesley Medical Center, Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, and six months of training in Pediatric Orthopedics at Shriners Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.

Dr. Kindel is excited to return to Salina to begin his practice. He looks forward to providing care to the community and working with the medical school.

Outside of his professional career, Dr. Kindel enjoys spending time with his wife, Amber, and their children Emma, Ensley, and Harrison. As a family, they are active in their children's sporting activities. During his free time Dr. Kindel enjoys wood and metal-working. Dr. Mauch attended the University of Kansas for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. In 1985, he received his bachelor of science degree in organismal biology. He then attended the university's School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree in 1989. Dr. Mauch served both his internship and his residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. He completed his internship in 1990 and went on to serve his urology residency from 1990 to 1994.

Dr. Mauch is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is very active in the field of urology and has presented his work at meetings of the Wisconsin Urolgical Society and the American Urological Association.

Brian G Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith graduated from Arizona State University in 1994 with a B.S. in psychology. He studied medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and received his M.D. in May, 1998. He then finished his post graduate training with a urology residency at the University of Oklahoma Department of Urology.
